Northwestern CSB's Prevention and Wellness Services, in partnership with Clarke County Community Services Council is providing a FREE SafeTALK training for community members on May 28 from 9:00-12:00 at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 210 E. Main Street, Berryville VA.
safeTALK, a LivingWorks program, teaches members of the community to recognize persons with thoughts of suicide and to connect them to suicide intervention resources.
Learn how to be an alert helper that:
- is aware that opportunities to help a person with thoughts of suicide are sometimes missed, dismissed or avoided
- is aware that persons with thoughts of suicide invite help and is receptive to those invitations
- recognizes when a person might be having thoughts of suicide
- Engages a person with thoughts of suicide in direct and open talk about suicide
- Listens to the person's story about suicide long enough to know that the thoughts are serious
- Knows the name and contact information of local suicide intervention resource and understands how they work
- Moves quickly to connect the person with thoughts to someone who can do a suicide intervention
